4th day of the laboratory

Thurday we spent together with Minke. Wondering how we can meet in ideas and how we can spend the day, we jumped all into the pool of spontaneous try outs, meeting in actions, questions, answers... o glorious intimacy ..

Meeting Anja Reinhardt and Yuri Bongers aka Vloeistof

The last two days we worked with Anja and Yuri's movement material (www.vloeistof.nl), with the dancers Katja and Andreas and the singer Marie-Lou that were invited by them as well. We worked on the figures of the attacker and the victim, and on searching for what makes a movement violent.
For this experiment we entered completely their proposal, and they could try their ideas on us. It raised a lot of interesting questions, but time was quite short and and we could only make some try-outs. Have a look at the video below!

Instructions for Defining "Sweet and Tender"

has eveyone tried to answer the question "what is 'Sweet and Tender?'?

do it enough and you realize the words you use are very crucial. Yes, today we met 6 choreographers that are invited to make Site Specific choreographies for the students of the dance school. (Guerilla project [or Gorilla, depending on your accent]) it was nice, but i realized how actually tricky it is to explain what we are doing.

In fact, the debate Sunday proved this as well, when we took up so much time first giving a history and a definition--which brings on the philosophy, etc.

My favorite question was this:

"How can you show this as a model to learn from when it is clear that you all share a common experience that unites you?"
That is a good one.

here are some tidbits that i remembered. we filmed it, but i cant be bothered to watch the vid now. I hate technology. I'll do a stream of thought:

we tried to trace back the beginning.
some were trying to understanding it like a fraternity.
the website was presented in a cardboard box with a jacket over it, but nobody went inside
we stated that the website was the single most significant event that solidified our identity.
we spoke of open source as a model of not only the website, but of our approach to the work made within S&T.
example of S&T having problems with exactly this matter followed.
functionality was questioned.
some said "i wouldn't be interested because after working in the field now for quite some years, i need my vision, and that's why i don't depend on groups".
the subject of "a discourse of talking about art works is not evident, it needs to be introduced and practiced" was a nice one.
the local scene was described a bit.
the money involved in the local scene was described a bit.
a question was asked about the difference between "the environments in Bruxelles and Tilburg concering how artists share their work and connect".
some brought up the difficulty of trying to "sell" themselves in this market
some said it would be a force to apply with the S&T group history and power, and one added: "and hide".
the metaphor of an independent artist "hoping to be thrown a piece of food, or being territorial with the piece he was lucky enough to get thrown" was introduced
the statement "sweet and tender is not a club" was stated

we ate grapes growing on the wall next to us.

it was very, very informative for us.

Domenico (aka GloryBuns)

sweet&tender meets guerilla project

Today we met the choreographers of the guerilla project, together with their coaches. We invited them to DansT rehearsal space and had a discussion about S&T collaborations, and shared experiences about networking. It's nice to see how people perceive S&T from the outside and what could be the critical points!

This was a journey into sound

... this is Bart van Dongen and his machines.
we spend a day together in searching how to feed each other

Disco Bambina

Bart set up a whole magical world of sophisticated fine sonar technology. We tried to be spectacular and intimate. Bart amplified our voice and noises feeling up the space with life and memories. Sonja had brought us a great photo of a naked model without an ass carrying a disco ball... Can we be spectacular without posing like models? I wonder...
Can we stop being dark, heavy, intellectual, call it the way you want ? We just need to be glorious...
I hid myself in a bag. I got all inside a bag. It was claustrophobic. Domenico dragged me somewhere in the space. I felt alone.
I got out. I tried to sing, to be spectacular, but the atmosphere was low. Why is spectacular not crazy and happy and big and amazing ?

Intimately spectacular

Tuesday, 7th of october

Pavlos wants to be spectacular and glorious
Lucie wants to be intimate
Anja wants to sing opera
Domenico wants to tell stories

We’re composing with these materials, singing intimate stories in a spectacular way, or making the spectacular intimate, …
We’re meeting artists in the gymnasium space and get spectacularly intimate with them
Today is the second day of work. We met Bart and his spectacular sound systems !

by Lucie

Our first day in the studio

We arrived at the gym. A bunch of kids playing around with ropes hanging from the ceiling , mattresses, balls. We set up the music, discussed about our week plan. We threw words down of what we are interested in: glorious, spectacular, intimate...
We moved our asses to some dixieland music and then brought some matresses to dance in a blue swimming pool made out of these matreses. Imagination, fantasy and freedom were our tools. We then saw a spectacular but intimate musical happening in a fast food restaurant:

We swam and did synchronized magics on the mattresses.
What if we saw one of those films of the 20s ???

We want to do by a waterfall... It's going to be so romantically spectacular, i have it in my eyes
